GETTING TO CHRIST CHURCH ON MARATHON DAY


It's the Southampton Marathon on Sunday 6 April 2025!


Happily, our Cantell venue remains fully accessible on Marathon Day. So there is minimal disruption for those joining us for our Sunday morning gathering. Please note, however, that if you are approaching from the South or East, some route changes may be required and you may need to allow a few minutes extra. 


Read on for summary access instructions. You can find a link to the full map of road closures at the bottom. 


All roads are open in good time for The Six O'Clock, so no changes will be needed for those joining us for the evening.

  • FROM THE north and WEST (totton, shirley, bassett, lordswood, maybush, romsey, chandlers ford etc.)

    Best route for most is unchanged: access from Winchester Road, Burgess Road (west of the uni) and Bassett Avenue is unaffected.

  • from central southampton east of the avenue (bevois town, st marys, ocean village etc)

    Best route for most: via The Avenue, Burgess Road then Glen Eyre Road.

  • FROM CENTRAL SOUTHAMPTON WEST OF THE AVENUE (bANISTER pARK, pOLYGON ETC.)  

    Best route for most: via Hill Lane, Burgess Road then Glen Eyre Road. Allow an extra few minutes.

  • from Portswood area (highfield, st denys, bevois town etc.)

    Best route for most: via Abbotts Way, Brookvale Road, Westwood Road, The Avenue, Burgess Road then Glen Eyre Road. For residents in the Little Common area, access to The Avenue is possible via Highfield Lane. Allow a few minutes extra.

  • from east of the itchen (bitterne, townhill park, woolston, sholing, west end etc)

    Best route for most: via Mansfield Road (A27) then left into Stoneham Way, right into Stoneham Lane, then the Flowers Approach (Carnation Road, Lobelia Road, Honeysuckle Road then Violet Road). Allow an extra 5 minutes.

  • from eastleigh and the m27 (airport / junction 5)

    Best route for most: via Stoneham Way, Bassett Green Road, Lobelia Road, then the Flowers Approach (see above). Allow a few minutes extra.
