Lord we come to you today heartbroken and in grief.
We grieve the dignity of men and women, your creation, being trampled on.
We grieve the harmony of your world giving way to fears and misunderstandings.
We grieve the honour of your name being shamed by the way we treat each other.
How long, O Lord, will society be so divided?
How long, O Lord, will even churches be places of pain?
How long, O Lord, will prejudice live on in our hearts?
Only you can bring healing and restore trust.
Only you can change hearts.
And so we plead with you: grip us afresh with a concern for your honour and a conviction of the love of Jesus.
Give us your people at Christ Church Southampton…
the eyes to see your image in those who are different from us;
the ears to hear of the hurts and wounds they have endured;
the hearts to love and value those who are brothers and sisters in Christ
the words to speak acceptance and forgiveness;
and the hands to join together in Christian unity and partnership.
For your honour,
